Bad News for Cabira Years 1-9 School

We have received news that one wing of the Cabira Years 1-9 School has been gutted by fire. In recent years, this school has been conducting classes in the morning and afternoon to accommodate additional numbers after taking on secondary classes.

The school is still currently operating but how it is providing classes for all of its children is unknown. This is the second of our partner schools this year that has been damaged, with high winds caused massive damages to the new wing of Olocasa School Years 10-12.

The provision of quality education is difficult enough in Viqueque District without such additional demands as these two incidents show. The government is generally slow in its response to such situations.  This is not unusual when prompt responses to unusual situations is dramatically restricted by limited resources, both physical and human.
