Practical Classroom Tips

There was a high representation from Geelong schools at our annual end of year gathering which was held at Geelong Grammar School, Corio. An interesting two hours was spent learning more about how our schools can engage more effectively with our partner schools in Timor Leste.

Penny Dewar and Julie Whelan from Clonard College gave a practical presentation on the logistics of Taking a School Group to Viqueque. They were ably assisted in this by two year 11 students whose animated and informative contributions were most appreciated. Another presentation on Lessons and Curriculum in Geelong was delivered by Louise Madden. Our President Peter Cannon, together with Committee members Tricia Blane and Michael Wright (St Ignatius College) spoke about Lessons and Activities that visiting educators could use on trips to Viqueque. Deb Singleton (Christian College) whose presentation was on the same topic can be accessed at

Our website also contains links to useful curriculum ideas for both Australian primary and secondary teachers who are interested to include the study of Timor Leste in their classroom. Another good site is: Asia Education Australia.
